Loy La Long Hotel – Bangkok Thailand<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nWhen it came to choosing our hotel we knew we wanted to find a boutique hotel, something that offered an insight into local life as well as the chance to relax and take it easy for a few days. There are many unique hotels in Bangkok and it’s easy to get overwhelmed by choices. Nestled on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River, the charming Loy La Long Hotel was exactly what we wanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What makes it special<\/h2>\n\n\n\n![\"The](\"https:\/\/adventurefilledlife.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Loy-La-Long-Red-Room-Review.jpg\")
The Red Room (which we stayed in) has an extra sleeping area for children.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\nThe Loy La Long Hotel is a unique choice of accommodation. It is actually a ~100-year-old\u00a0Chinese-style family home that was converted into a hotel. Its views of the river, from both the first and second floor, create a relaxing and romantic atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The hotel was also featured in the movie Bangkok Traffic (Love) Story<\/em>, A popular Thai film from 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\nIt is a great place to kick back for a few days as well. There are plenty of places to hang out and relax with a view of the water. The veranda on the first floor is built out over the water and is an incredibly peaceful spot to enjoy your breakfast. At night you can also experience the beauty of the sunset as it drops below the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are many spots to sit outside and enjoy the view<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nThe picture above is of the second-floor balcony. There is enough room for 4-5 people to sit outside and chat. It’s especially nice in the evening when you can catch a cool breeze – a great feeling after a hot day in the city!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also, if that wasn’t enough of a reason to visit, the food is reasonably priced! We personally think the quality is much better than we normally find at hotels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cost<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
At $100 per night, the Loy La Long Hotel was not cheap by Thai standards. However, it was certainly worth the money! Here are a few reasons why I recommend the Loy La Long Hotel in Bangkok:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- Great river views at all times of the day.<\/li>
- A customizable and delicious breakfast provided each day by the hotel.<\/li>
- Friendly staff.<\/li>
- A selection of books and DVDs to enjoy during your stay.<\/li>
- Quiet neighborhood<\/li>
- Reasonably priced food menu<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

The only complaint I have about the Loy La Long Hotel is that it can be a bit hard to find when you first arrive. The hotel is located next to the river and to get to it you will need to snake through another property to reach the hotel. The poor signage and lack of visibility from the street confused our Uber driver as well as us! Once you know where to go it is easy to get back. The temple in front of the Loy La Long makes for an easy landmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The name of the temple is Wat Pathum Khong Ratchaworawihan. <\/strong>Doing some research and finding this info beforehand would have made finding the Loy La Long much easier on our first day!<\/p>\n\n\n\nAlthough the hotel is not in the typical tourist areas, most are only a short taxi or a tuk-tuk ride away. Also, the hotel is in a perfect location for catching the riverboats that constantly power up and down the\u00a0Chao Phraya River. This is the best way to get to popular riverside destinations like Wat Arun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The hotel staff does a great job of making you feel welcomed. They were also very helpful in directing us to nearby landmarks and made sure we knew where to go before heading out for the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
