48 hours in KL<\/h2>\n

My trip to Malaysia’s capital will be a short one. I was able to book flights back from Australia that gave me two days in KL instead of a quick layover. Interestingly enough, the price for a 3-leg journey was about $10 less than my original round-trip flight! With only two days in Kuala Lumpur, I need to pack my schedule pretty tight. There are a few things that I will be saving for a return trip. The main thing I wish I had time for this trip is a visit to the historic city of Malacca. I’ll try to hit the most important places in KL on this trip so my next visit can focus on exploring the area around Malaysia’s capital.<\/p>\n

Day One:<\/h2>\n

Entering the Batu Caves<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The first thing I plan to is head to the Batu Caves. Since I’m traveling light, only bringing a backpack, I’ll take a taxi from the airport to the Batu Caves. When I travel I’m always interested in seeing unique architecture and sites that highlight the countries natural beauty. The ancient limestone caves are a major draw for tourists who come to marvel at the caves and the intricate temples. I expect to spend a few hours here before hopping on the train back to the city.<\/p>\n

I love Malaysian food so I’ll have a big lunch at a local restaurant in the area. I’m hoping to find a shop that serves Biryani, a Malaysian curry rice dish, as it has been a long time since I’ve had it. After lunch, I’ll head to the hotel to check in before it gets too late. Depending on how I feel, I will either take a trip<\/p>\n

In the evening I will head to the Menera,\u00a0a 425-meter tower and popular tourist attraction, and head up to the observation deck. I always feel paying $15-20 to go to the top of a building is overpriced, but where else can I get such a great view of the city? You can get a small discount if you pre-purchase tickets online which is always nice. The world-famous Petronas Towers are located close to the Sky Tower so I will be able to see the towers lit up at night. I’ll also try to make it to the SkyBar, the highly recommended bar at the top of the Traders Hotel, provided it isn’t too crowded on a Friday night.<\/p>\n

Day Two:<\/h2>\n

In the morning I plan to take advantage of the rooftop pool at my hotel. I will be staying at the D’Majestic Place, a hotel my friends have stayed at before.<\/a> I want to take in the view of the city and enjoy a swim before the Malaysian heat sets in. It will be quite humid as well, with a high chance of hot summer rain in the afternoons. Luckily, this is something I have become used to while living and traveling through South-East Asia.<\/p>\n

After my swim, I’ll head to the Islamic Arts Museum. I love history and the museum is host to a large number of artifacts curated from various Islamic empires. I plan to spend a few hours here exploring the 4 floors of exhibits. The museum charges a paltry 14 ringgit admission fee which makes it the cheapest thing I’ll do on the trip.<\/p>\n

I’m interested in visiting the Kuala Lumpur Aquarium, the second largest aquarium in the world. However, I may opt to keep my afternoon and evening free so I can explore the city more. I value spontaneity when I travel and I want to reserve some time to explore the city. If I hear about any “must see” places I can easily slot them in on the second day.<\/p>\n

Something to consider:<\/h2>\n

As I have written before\u00a0I strongly dislike Durian<\/a>. However, Kuala Lumpur has a durian buffet which has caught my interest. The buffet called Donald’s Durian offers unending plates of this smelly tropical fruit for a low price. I may not be able to stomach much but I want to go try it out – if only to say I did it! A durian buffet isn’t something you see every day!<\/p>\n
